British Armed Forces Bases to House Refugee Applicants in Effort to End Hotel-Based Usage
Hundreds individuals seeking protection may be housed in defense installations as the administration aims to end the reliance of hotel accommodations.
Discussions are in progress regarding the utilization of two locations - one in Scotland and another in the southern England - for shelter for 900 men.
The government leader has ordered Interior Ministry and Military Ministry authorities to accelerate initiatives to locate suitable armed forces locations.
The ruling party has vowed to end the use of temporary hotel accommodations, which have required billions in funds and emerged as a primary concern for anti-asylum seeker rallies.
Proposed Military Sites
Asylum seekers might be housed in the Cameron Barracks in Highland region and Crowborough army training camp in southeastern England by the conclusion of the coming month.
Manufacturing locations, short-term shelter and vacant properties are also being examined for possible utilization.
Government Commitments
Authoritative figures indicated that each location would comply with health and safety standards.
"Our administration is furious at the extent of individuals without proper documentation and asylum hotels."
"This government will terminate all refugee hotels. Efforts are well underway, with more suitable sites being proposed to alleviate strain on resident populations and cut refugee accommodation expenses."
Present Housing Figures
Nearly 32,000 asylum seekers are currently being sheltered in hotels, representing a drop from a high point of exceeding 56,000 in 2023.
A current assessment found that billions of government revenue had been "misused" on refugee housing.
Earlier Defense Facility Utilization
Two ex-armed forces locations - the Wethersfield facility in the eastern county and Napier Barracks in Kent - are currently being used to house asylum seekers after being opened under the previous government.
The Prime Minister stated on the circumstances, saying: "The government is resolved to terminate every refugee hotel. I can't tell you how troubled and alarmed I am that we inherited a mess as big as these developments by the previous administration."
