Formula 1 competitor Liam Lawson revealed he barely escaped a potentially deadly accident during Sunday's Mexican Grand Prix when two marshals crossed the track directly in front of him

The alarming incident took place on the third circuit when marshals were spotted on the circuit as Lawson was rejoining the race following an premature pit stop to replace his compromised front wing

Racer's Instant Response

Immediately after, Racing Bulls driver Lawson radioed to his team engineer saying: "Are you kidding me? Did you witness that? I nearly... ended their lives"

"I honestly couldn't believe what I was seeing"

"I rejoined with a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and unexpectedly appeared two guys sprinting across the track"

"I came close to striking one of them, honestly, it was so dangerous"

Security Issues Highlighted

"Evidently there's been a communication breakdown at some point but I've never encountered that before, and I haven't previously witnessed that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We can't understand how on a live track track officials can be permitted to just run across the track like that. I don't understand the reason, I'm certain we'll get some kind of clarification, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the global motorsport federation, is thoroughly reviewing the situation

"Subsequent to a first corner event, race control was notified that debris was present on the track at the turning point of that curve" declared the regulatory authority

"In the third rotation, track officials were informed and put on alert to enter the track and recover the debris once the entire field had cleared the area"

"The moment it was realized that Lawson had made a pit stop, the instructions to dispatch officials were withdrawn and a caution signal was displayed in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what happened after that point"
